Many may know her by her social media handle @Ohwawa_, but Destiny is more than just a model. She is a connoisseur of having great experiences and an entrepreneur. We recently sat down and chatted with Destiny about her modeling, entrepreneurship, and how one should never limit themselves when it comes to their goals and aspirations.

Destiny Owusu who is of Ghanaian descent is a Virginia native, who currently lives in New York and is using her time during the pandemic to reach her goals.

She got her start in modeling locally in Virginia with a friend who wanted to boost their portfolio. Once she posted her photos on different social media outlets, Destiny received feedback she could not even imagine at the time. From that day the flame was lit and she knew exactly what her calling was. After she left school and started settling into her newfound passion, other photographers on the east coast started to reach out to her for collaborations. Over those few years, she traveled back and forth from Va to NY, balancing the model lifestyle and work. A few years ago, Destiny moved to Brooklyn and has not looked back since.

Destiny’s first “Ah-ha” moment in her modeling career that got the engine running was during an NYFW V-Files show. In 2016, she won a spot in the brand V-Files X FENG CHEN WANG AW16 show and it all just “clicked”.  Following the show, she was featured on Vogue.com. Since then she has been featured and booked for many editorials and publications, shows (Pre-covid, sadly), and recently Pyer Moss’ latest collection. Not only that, but she is also currently is not signed to any agency and has been managing herself for the past 8 years.

Since a young boy Drew was always taught the importance of maintaining self-care and presenting yourself accordingly. “ My grandmother was the one who instilled in me the importance of one’s self-care and taking care of oneself. She gave me quarantine tips before Quarantine”.

The flame sparked in highlighting his passions on Youtube when he realized how it became mentally satisfying for him. It provided him with saving grace and allowed him to take small efforts to connect to himself creating self-love and2 motivation. Once the ball started rolling, Drew started sharing his skincare techniques and topics on youtube 4 years ago and has not turned back since.

When it comes to his drive and why he keeps at it, Drew says ”Beyonce!”, “Beyonce truly inspired my hustle as far as coming through with content and being comfortable telling my story”.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Destiny had to look back at all her other interest besides modeling and how she can turn it into a lucrative business. Amongst those interests are traveling, finding new eats, and exploring new excursions.

Back in January of this year, Owusu premiered “Wheres Ohwawa?!”,( based on her IG name). Inspired by her hobby of searching for a good vibe, great aesthetic, and finding a new spot to eat or visit. So being that friend that’s always at the “coolest” spots and after being asked through social media, she decided to launch a site where for just a monthly subscription you too can receive a list of these places in a city near you. Currently, she has a NY and LA and will be adding more cities soon.

Another interest turn venture of Destiny is traveling! So being that friend who’s always in the most glamorous and eye-soring places, as well as always be the “planner” of group trips, she decided to launch  Oh. Destination. A traveling consulting site where she helps you navigate your full travel needs.  With packages ranging from $75 to $150 and a small questionnaire, Destiny will set you up with an itinerary with the perfect place, excursions, and bites.

Other than launching her brands and establishing herself, even more, Destiny has also kept herself occupied with new 2020 Hobbies and takeaways. Her new at-home hobbies include Cooking; perfecting her African cuisine and also started a prayer journal; a way for her to note her manifestation and stay accountable.

Her 2020 takeaway is, “Take advantage of the businesses and brands that you follow and or consume. Big brands need us now, more than ever.  Without black people and black culture, certain companies would be nothing.”   Destiny, suggest using this time during this pandemic for yourself. “Become your own brand and/or start your own business.” And If anything else, “live your best life and don’t overthink yourself.”
