Q&A WITH @V.msmith
With new albums, award shows, and remote photoshoots during a pandemic; styling still must go on!
We recently caught up with celebrity stylist Vincent Smith originally from Birmingham, Alabama who has worked with artists such as Victoria Monet, Tiana Major9, and Flo Milli, and more about navigating the life of stylist and creating during these Pandemic times.
Vincent was inspired to style as he observed the lack of creativity in menswear clothing. “I could never figure out why women were able to have so much fun and truly express themselves through their wardrobes and men couldn’t.” “Although I work a lot with women, I’m very passionate about menswear.” “I’m actually excited to see how designers tell their stories through menswear and what avenues they take to make the menswear personal to them and their houses. “There are silhouettes, and cuts that you’d NEVER had seen come down a runway years ago. “
the life of a celebrity stylist.
Styling since the age of 22 and professionally for the past four years making it 9 years total. Vincent had his big break when assisting Kollin Carter; Cardi B’s lead stylist. This later led to his first solo celebrity client, Victoria Monet as a Key stylist.
When asked what inspired him to get involved in styling the entertainment industry?
Vincent says, “Working under Kollin Carter with Cardi B pretty much gave me the spark to want to be involved in entertainment. I saw how Kollin was able to bring his editorial mindset to reality on a real person, it’s not an easy thing to do. So two years of working under him showed me how possible it was to create fantasy on a real person and I’m all about fantasy!”
Is there an artist that you would love to style right now?
“Still manifesting so just send me all the good vibes! Lol”
When it comes to men’s fashion who is your inspo?
“I inspire myself every day. I don’t think my inspiration comes from a PERSON, but from the things around me, my life experiences, etc. Right now in 2021 menswear is thriving in my personal opinion. “
What's your “go-to” errand fit?
“Sweats, I love to be comfortable!”
Any new found 2020 hobbies?
During his downtime in this Pandemic when he is not traveling and dressing the hottest celebrities he plays the Sims and Documentaries. “Considering we are basically stuck in the house, I Love the Sims because I can still exercise some form of creativity while gaming and Documentaries are always informative.”
What’s been your biggest takeaway from last year?
To find the things that I see as being concrete and invest 100% whether that’s career, love, or friendships.!
